Newquay - Absolutely Fabulous!
Beaches like giant superbowls, purpose-built for surfing Ruling the waves Newquay is Britainís surf capital
A breeding ground for champions and host of world championships. But it is also a gigantic surf campus where people of all ages can learn in safety, with expert tuition, and build their confidence on waves that range in difficulty from easy to awesome. Check out our Beach safety tips here.
The beach to teach-
Sheltered from the prevailing south-westerlies by Towan Head, the beaches of Towan, Great Western and Tolcarne provide a gentle start for beginners on belly-boards, and a confidence-boost for those graduating to Malibu boards. Tuition is available and boards can be hired, either on the beaches or from specialist surf-shops in town.
Perfect for practice Practice makes perfect -
and Watergate makes practice rewarding. More exposed than Newquay Bay, but less demanding than Fistral, its mile-long expanse provides ideal conditions to build on basics and hone skills.
The Fistral phenomenon
Fistral Beach looks the Atlantic directly in the eye. When the wind is in the south-west, the waves build and charge in on an unbroken 3,000-mile run, challenging the top board-artists in national and international surf and surf- lifesaving competition.
With the experience gained from staging competitions, we have put in place a system of warning flags, with regular supervision by trained lifeguards for parental peace of mind.
